Over the summer Red Bull hosted Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project, in which artists were challenged to turn canvas-wrapped Red Bull coolers into one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Major cities throughout the U.S., including Chicago, showcased their pieces at local venues, and three finalists were voted on and selected by attendees and a panel of three judges. Finalists got the chance to show their work during the famous Art Basel art fair in Miami Beach in December.
The art competition reached a whole new level following the recent Miami showing in front of an international crowd of art world insiders and celebrities. Chicago artist and competition winner Hebru Brantley truly got his “wings” when his mixed-media piece caught the eye of a world renowned music artist and rap “God”– Jay-Z.
The $20,000 piece titled “Everyone’s Scared” is now the rapper’s newest addition to his home. Jay-Z was so impressed by the piece that he insisted Brantley personally delivered the piece to his hotel room. The once-in-a-lifetime moment was captured in a photo op posted on Brantley’s Twitter handle and blog site.
